Is a deduction the same as tax savings?

No. In a simplified illustration, a $100,000 deduction at an assumed effective marginal rate of 30% produces a $30,000 tax effect, subject to actual eligibility and interactions. It does not put $100,000 back into the business.

Ask for both the tax-base change and the resulting tax calculation. Where deductions change other deductions, losses or state outcomes, a single multiplication is only a screening illustration. The QBI rules themselves depend on income, business type and other limits, showing why combined modelling matters. IRS — Qualified business income deduction
