Make the decision by repeatable workload. Daily bookkeeping, reconciliations and cash visibility may justify internal or outsourced finance capacity; an isolated technical question may fit a specialist project. Recurring owner decisions may warrant an advisory relationship if finance can supply reliable inputs.
Use a six-week workload log as an editorial diagnostic: task, hours, frequency, error/rework, skill required and delay cost. Separate genuine professional judgement from information collection. If poor books are the bottleneck, buying more strategy presentations may make the team busier without improving decisions.
